Jeux de la Francophonie : le Burundi a décroché 2 médailles

Antoine Gakeme,Alain Horutanga, Diane NUKURI Johnson, Zabulon, Olivier IRABARUTA, tous de la délégation burundaise à Nice (www.akeza.net)

L`événement sportif et culturel qui regroupait les pays francophones à Nice dans les 7ème Jeux de la Francophonie a été clôturé dimanche dernier. Le Burundi avait été représenté par 5 athlètes et un écrivain qui participait dans le secteur culturel. En dépit des problèmes rencontré certains membres de la délégation burundaise notamment Francine et GAKEME tombés malades avant le lancement de ces jeux, le Burundi a pu gagner deux médailles, l`or et l`argent.

La culture avait été représentée par Alain Amran HORUTANGA. Pas de médailles pour ce féru de la littérature qui avoue pourtant avoir acquis beaucoup d`expérience qu`il partagera à ses compères dès son arrivée. Le jeune HORUTANGA a tiens à ajouter qu`il a fait parler de la littérature burundaise, en distribuant quelques exemplaires du livre «In dépendance ».

Déçus d’entendre qu’Antoine GAKEME et Francine NIYONSABA avaient déclarés forfaits, certains émotionnels se disaient que le Burundi venait de perdre la chance de gagner une médaille. Pourtant, il n’y avait point lieu de désespérer, d`autant plus que la délégation burundaise n’était pas composée de deux athlètes seulement. D`autres athlètes étaient confiants. Et ce fut le cas, car au 10.000m, le jeune du club Muzinga Olivier IRABARUTA a fait honneur au pays en terminant 2ème. Une médaille d`argent lui a été attribué. Zabulon du club Messager de Songa n`a pas été brillant au 1500m. Mêmement avec Eloge MPUNDU au 10.000m. Toutefois pour des jeunes ayant juste unpeu d`expérience, un manque de compétitions à leurs actif, ils sont à encourager.

Diane NUKURI Johnson, la spécialiste du marathon avait mis son maillot cette fois sur 10.000. A la fin de la course, c`est l`hymne national du Burundi qui retentira, Diane au podium avec sa médaille d`or, de quoi rendre fier tout le peuple burundais. Diane NUKURI Johnson a battu le record des jeux sur la discipline. Sur le 10.000m elle a fait un chrono de 32’29sec14, ce qui lui permet de revisiter l’exploit de la Marocaine Zhor El Kamch, détentrice du record précédent en 33’41sec28 effectué aux Jeux de Niamey en 2005.

A titre de rappel, le succès sportif le plus récent du Burundi aux Jeux de la Francophonie date de 2001. C’est Diane NUKURI Johnson et Aloys NIZIGAMA qui avaient remportés de médailles.
